SEO Tips for Small Business Owners
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is simply how Google and other search engines find your business. One way to grow your business is by doing SEO. So, we came up with some SEO tips for small business owners, that you can do on your own or with the help of a marketing professional.
- Add Google Analytics to your website. Then you can review how users are finding your site and which content is getting the most traffic.
- Add content consistently by having a blog like this on your website. Whether once a week or once a month, be consistent in when and how often you’re adding content to your blog. Google really likes it when you add new pages to your website and blog posts do just that.
- Add an SEO plug-in like Yoast and use it whenever you add new blog posts or content pages to your site. It will help guide you to adding good content for SEO purposes.
Google My Business
Creating and adding to a Google My Business page for your business is perhaps the most important piece of the Google puzzle. If your company is based out of your home, you can have a Google My Business page without your address. Post updates to your listing like you would for social media; use keywords and location for best results.
Google loves when we create content on other sites that links back to our own. These are called backlinks. One example of this is Collaborative Connections, my podcast page. It provides links back to this website and opportunities for my show guests to have links back to their websites. Another way to create content is by answering questions on local websites and industry-specific websites to increase online visibility.
Keep in mind that SEO isn’t a magic wand. It will take three to six months to start to see results. But, doing the things above is worth the effort. SEO is a great tool to grow your business.
